Wolfforth Volunteer Fire Department
The Wolfforth Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1954 and provides fire and rescue services to 88 square miles in Southwest Lubbock County. Currently, the Fire Department consists of 18 dedicated volunteers.
Wolfforth VFD emphasizes current firefighting techniques and firefighter safety. The department received a FEMA grant for training, and established a thirteen month fire academy for Wolfforth and surrounding area firefighters, that is especially valuable to small volunteer departments. In addition to the academy, Wolfforth VFD hosts an annual rescue school each March. Both the academy and the rescue school are sanctioned by the Texas Engineering Extension Service, based at Texas A & M University.
Wolfforth VFD is active in the community, participating in a variety of activities. Major programs include:
Fire Prevention Week - Present programs to area schools and daycare centers
Wolfforth Meals on Wheels - Check, and install if necessary, smoke detectors and 911 addresses in each recipient's home; assist with deliveries as needed, contribute funds.
Wolfforth Annual Harvest Festival - Assist with parade and traffic control; operate concession stand with proceeds donated to local charities.
Fill the Boot - Annual Labor Day effort to collect funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Santa Project - Provide food and Christmas gifts to Wolfforth area needy families.
