The City of Wolfforth is committed to increasing and securing the water supply we need for our future. In December 2022, we contracted with the City of Lubbock to purchase water, and since then, we have been making the improvements needed to allow for the delivery of that water to you. We are excited to announce that on June 1, the valve will open and water from Lubbock will begin to flow into our system. We will now have more water than ever before! We are also working on several other initiatives to expand our capacities. These include an additional Water Treatment Plant, a new Elevated Water Storage Tank (similar to the new ones in Lubbock), distribution system improvements, and the continued pursuit of even more water supply. We are finishing what we started.
What this means for all of us as Wolfforth water customers is that our water rates must go up. Based on the results of a third-party water rate study, new water rates have been approved as of June 1 and will be billed on your July 1, 2023 water bill. These increases will allow us to generate the necessary revenue to 1) pay for the Lubbock water, and 2) fund needed improvements.
How will these new rates affect you?
If you are a customer using only the minimum amount of 3000 gallons per month, your cost of water will increase by $17.62/month.
If you are an average Wolfforth customer using 8000 gallons per month, your cost of water will increase by $41.07/month.
If you use more than 8000 gallons per month, your cost of water will increase based on actual consumption, calculated at the following rates:
3.001 to 15,000 gallons $7.79 per thousand (previously $3.10 per thousand)
15,001 to 30,000 gallons $8.96 per thousand (previously $4.19 per thousand)
30,001 to 50,000 gallons $10.52 per thousand (previously $5.65 per thousand)
Over 50,000 gallons $12.64 per thousand (previously $7.63 per thousand)
Will you be able to legally water your lawn again? Yes. The Wolfforth City Council will consider an amendment to the irrigation restrictions at a meeting to be held on June 5, 2023. It is anticipated the revised Drought Contingency Plan will allow for watering once per week and could even allow for future watering at twice per week. All changes to the irrigation restrictions will be communicated to you.
