letter from our city manager
Regardless of the situation, water is a precious commodity that we should all be cognizant of. Protecting that resource and making sure our citizens are taken care of is of upmost priority. We are extremely excited about the progress we are making to secure the water supply for years to come and would like to share that progress with the community.
To start, we have a contract with Lubbock that initiates water purchase on June 1, 2023, at a volume of 500,000 gallons per day. In addition to that contract, we are currently in the final stage of receiving TCEQ approval to put three new wells online, capable of producing around 600,000 gallons per day, about 450 gallons per minute. Within the next few months, we expect approval from TCEQ for four wells from the Harvest Addition, producing about 300,000 gallons a day. Following the Harvest Addition wells, seven more will be added in the Overlook Addition producing about 1.5 million gallons per day.
In September, the City Council approved a contract with Loop 88, LLC, to purchase 500,000 gallons per day in Phase I, and one million gallons per day, possibly more, in Phase II. Efforts to receive TCEQ approval are underway, and even though we can’t control the speed of the approval process, we’re optimistic for Phase I to be online sometime this summer.
Other projects in the engineering design phase include a new elevated storage tank, a major water distribution system expansion, and an additional water treatment plant.
The dedication of our council and city employees is greatly appreciated. As we move forward, we want to be aware of our water usage. As a water user in Wolfforth, please take this statement to heart: The greatest impact on water supply is conservation. Do your part to ensure that future generations to come have the water needed. We thank you for your patience as we have navigated this territory.
January 24, 2023 – Important Message regarding trash pickup
The City of Wolfforth remains in Stage 3 of our Drought Contingency Plan, which prohibits all irrigation using an automatic irrigation system. Your cooperation and assistance have resulted in a reduced water demand, helping to conserve our most valuable natural resource. Thank you! We continue to ask for your cooperation and compliance as we move into what we hope is cooler, wetter weather.
